1. What is happening?

Beginning February 2026, all in-person High School Upgrading courses will be relocated downtown to the Bow Valley College campus.

Chinook Learning Services (Chinook) has signed a lease agreement, until January 2028, with Bow Valley College. The New Downtown Location consolidates the High School Upgrading courses to one central location.

Chinook adult Continuing Education (non-credit professional and personal development) will continue to operate independently from High School Upgrading and is not impacted by the relocation.

2. Are classes being run by Bow Valley College?

No, all Registration and Classroom Learning courses for High School Upgrading will continue to be offered and run by Chinook. There is no registration required with Bow Valley College to access the new location.

3. Where is the new location?

In downtown Calgary, Chinook will run its High School Upgrading courses primarily out of the North Campus building at Bow Valley College.

4. How can I access the campus by public transit?

  • Students are encouraged to take public transportation, if possible.
  • Our downtown location is easily accessible via the City Hall/Bow Valley College CTrain Station, which is situated in the 7 Avenue Free Fare Zone. This station serves as a major hub for both the north and south CTrain lines, making it a convenient point for students and staff. Furthermore, several bus routes also stop near this location.

5. Is there parking available?

Yes, here is limited, unreserved, paid parking available. Bow Valley College has limited underground parking beneath the South Campus and limited spots available in the West Parking lot beside the North Campus. However, students are strongly encourage to use public transportation. More information on parking fees can be found at Getting Here and Around (Bow Valley College website).

6. How do I access the building?

  • Students can access the North Campus either directly, or through the South Campus doors, located on the westbound CTrain platform.
  • The Plus15 can be accessed on the second floor of the North and South campus. The Plus15 closes at 6:00 PM.
  • The Plus30 can be accessed on the third floor of the North and South campus and is exclusive to students and staff. It is open 24 hours/day.

7. Will there be signage to help us navigate the new space?

Yes, there will be signage. Wayfinding support will be provided during the transition.

8. What do students and staff have access to?

Chinook students and staff will have access to the following:

  • Furnished classrooms;
  • Office spaces with reception desks;
  • Science labs; 
  • Staff lounges; and
  • Cafeteria, lockers, Indigenous Iniikokaan Centre, library, student study spaces, student gathering spaces, and interfaith prayer space.

9. When will classes be scheduled?

Bi-weekly classes are scheduled Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday mornings, afternoons, and evenings. For more information, see Classroom Learning.

10. Will there be any fee increases?

Fees will remain within the standard Chinook fee schedule. For more information, see Fall / Winter Course Fees.

11. What about safety and security?

Bow Valley College will provide standard security services.

Safe Walk is a resource available to all staff and students. Campus Security personnel will escort members of either group to their vehicle; bus stops or any other location that meets the requirements below.

  • Within a two-block radius of the North and South Campus.
  • Safe Walk is located at the Campus Security Desk, on the first floor of North Campus.

12. What happens after January 2028?

There is an option to extend the lease for up to three additional one-year terms, subject to agreement on rent and approval by Bow Valley College.
