CAPG Applicant GuidelinesFunding Amounts

  • For employed trainees, 50% of the eligible training cost is covered.
  • For unemployed trainees, 75% of the eligible training cost is covered.

Funding Caps

  • Employer cap of $100,000 of approved funding per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
  • An employer is eligible to receive up to $5,000 in funding per employed trainee per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
  • An employer is eligible to receive up to $10,000 in funding per unemployed trainee per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).

Unemployed Trainee Eligibility

  • Trainees that have been unemployed for more than 30 consecutive days; or
  • New hires that have worked for the employer for 30 days or fewer and were previously unemployed for more than 30 consecutive days.

Ineligible Trainees

  • Business owners or board members.
  • An immediate family member (this includes spouses, common-law partners, adult interdependent partners, children (biological, step, adopted), parents, and siblings) of
    • The employer, a board member or shareholder.
    • Someone who has authority or power over the employer.

Eligible Training

  • There are no minimum instructional hours for training.
  • Training must finish within 52 weeks from the application received date.
  • There is no requirement for training to result in a credential.
  • Training must be based on one of three productivity-skill categories:
    1. Business process and operations management
    2. Technical
    3. Digital and technological

Ineligible Training

  • Class 1 Learning Pathway (formerly known as MELT).
  • Training from a post-secondary that is intended to complete a diploma or degree program.
  • Training related to OHS and basic safety.
  • Training that develops basic skills, soft skills, or interpersonal skills (such as general communication, relationship-building and guiding others).

Training Costs

  • Ineligible costs include mandatory student fees and service fees.

Travel Policy

  • Small or medium-sized businesses located outside of the Edmonton or Calgary Census Metropolitan Area are eligible to receive travel assistance.

Change Requests

  • Change requests must be submitted within 30 days of the earliest approved training start date.
  • Trainee changes must be submitted before the approved training start date.
