Mature Student Status
The following describes special provisions for students who are considered "mature" when attempting to upgrade or complete their high school diploma. |

A mature student is one who, as of September 1st of the current school year is:
- nineteen years of age or older; or
- the holder of a previously awarded Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent.

A mature student is eligible to enrol in any course at the senior high school level (without holding the required prerequisite courses) except those 19 years of age and younger enrolling in Chinook Learning Services' courses. |

A mature student is eligible to write a diploma exam without holding the required prerequisite courses. |

A mature student who has achieved 50% or higher in a senior high school course will be awarded credits in the normal prerequisite(s) to the course(s) completed. (e.g., A student who takes Physical Education 30 without having taken Physical Education 10 and 20 and achieves over 50% will receive credit for Physical Education 10 and 20 as well.) |

Mature students are not required to take Physical Education 10 or Career and Life Management 20. |
