Trevor WestTrevor West

Trevor started taking courses in silversmithing in 1995 and at his second session was asked by the instructor to help teach the class. When the instructor retired in 2003, Trevor took over the main teaching role. During this time he has participated in two Fine Art Festivals for Chinook Learning Services, demonstrating jewelry projects and techniques. Trevor’s students have over 60 different projects to choose from while learning an array of techniques and stone settings. Trevor continues to hone his craft, taking classes at Alberta College of Art and Design and Red Deer College.

Born in New Zealand, Trevor immigrated to Canada in 1968. During a 20 year period in the photography business, Trevor freelanced in architectural and aerial photography. Blending a love for music and his skill as a photographer, Trevor entered the concert world where he was privileged to photograph such notables as Rod Stewart, The Who, The Guess Who, Led Zeppelin, Five Man Electrical Band, Jethro Tull and Ten Years After, just to name a few.

Trevor’s artistic interests also include wood turning. While on an extended visit to New Zealand he had the opportunity to take 6 months of lessons from the country’s most prominent wood turner. Trevor enjoys turning bowls, plates, platters and boxes with Quilted and Bird’s Eye maple being his favorite wood to use.

Learning is a lifetime adventure for Trevor. He feels that he learns so much from teaching people from all walks of life who have so many different experiences and goals. In his spare time, Trevor loves being with his family and working on his 1937 Ford.
