Kathy Hamilton
Kathy started teaching Home Maintenance for Women in 1994 to share her vast experience in home repairs. At the time she was a Journeyman Cabinet Maker and continued to work in the industry until 1997 when she went back to school to become a computer technician.
Kathy is a director as well as a volunteer for a charitable organization called Casting for Life. This organization teaches breast cancer survivors to fly fish and tie flies. Her love of teaching at Casting for Life retreats led her to develop a Fly Fishing for Women course in 2008, which she teaches through Chinook Learning Services.
Throughout the summer, Kathy travels all over the province camping, fishing and honing her newly developed skill of playing guitar and singing at the top of her lungs. It has been suggested that she carry an ample supply of earplugs for her close neighbours. In the colder months, you will find Kathy building new furniture and taking one of the many courses offered through Chinook Learning Services.
Kathy’s easy going nature and great sense of humour lends itself to make her classroom atmosphere a relaxed and fun learning environment. Kathy says what makes teaching absolutely joyful is when “I show a student how to do a repair and then have them come back the following week excited, empowered and proud of the job they’ve done!”
