Eng Chang
Eng was born and raised in Malaysia. Eng’s early cooking training began in her mother's kitchen and later at her uncle's noodle shop. After immigrating to Canada in 1968, Eng continued to expand her repertoire by cooking for family and helping out in a friend's restaurant. She also visited the kitchens of restaurants on frequent trips to China.
Eng has also been very active in the Silver Star Revue, which is a song and dance production that highlights the best and most popular hits from the 40's, 50's, and 60's. She has also performed at various Chinese community functions over the years.
Eng has been an instructor with Chinook since 1975. She loves exposing her students to not only the many varieties of oriental cuisine that exist, but also to the history and culture behind these dishes. Eng finds it very satisfying that students have remembered her and her dishes many years (sometimes decades) after taking her classes.
