Dan Laba Dan Laba

Dan has been teaching Art for Chinook Learning Services both in the credit and non-credit areas since 1977. He has taught courses over the years in sketching, sculpture, design, painting (oils, acrylics and watercolours), ceramics, stained glass, jewelry making, photography and video production. Dan maintains an Art studio in Calgary working in oils, clay and metal and is one of the founding members of the Alberta Artists Association where he has held various positions since 1996.

The first non-credit class that Dan was asked to teach was making flower pots using a hand building technique. Everyone made a different design, using different techniques. After accumulating an impressive variety of pots, the students met at the Calgary Zoo where one of the Greenhouse personnel taught everyone about soils, tropical plants the proper steps in planting.

Dan says that the pace, variety, energy and constructive fun for everyone is what has made teaching Chinook courses so enjoyable all these years and why he continues to instruct and encourage artists of all ages today.
