This webpage is intended to answer some of the most common questions asked. Please keep in mind that each person's circumstances are unique, and that these answers are not intended to cover every possible circumstance.
1. What is Chinook Learning Services Continuing Education? Where are you located?
- Chinook Learning Services is part of the Calgary Board of Education. We offer adult, child, youth and family continuing education programs. We offer classes in CBE schools and various other locations across the city.
- The Continuing Education administrative office is located in Rosscarrock Campus. More information concerning Chinook can be found in About Us section of our website.
2. When is upcoming course information available?
- Adult and Child, Youth & Family course information is posted on our website in advance of the printed material being published.
- The September – December adult printed course guide is available on newsstands beginning in early August. The January – August adult course guide is available on newsstands beginning in late December.
- The Child, Youth and Family course guides are available at Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Separate Schools as well as on newsstands.

3. How will I know if my course is changed or cancelled?
- You will be contacted by Chinook Learning Services if your course will undergo any significant change. Please ensure that you have notified our Registration office of changes in your contact numbers.
- PLEASE NOTE: In the event of poor weather, Continuing Education will only cancel classes if the Calgary Board of Education has officially closed all of its buildings. Please listen to the media for notification of an official CBE closure.
4. How do I find information if I am interested in a second level of a course I enjoyed or other courses taught by the same instructor?

5. How can I offer an idea for a new course?
- Contact Continuing Education at (403) 777-7550 or e-mail ChinookContEd@cbe.ab.ca. We will follow-up and investigate the possibility of offering the course in the future.
6. Do I have to be a Canadian citizen to take programs with Chinook Learning Services?
- You do not have to be a Canadian citizen to take Continuing Education courses but there are some restrictions when enrolling in High School Upgrading courses.
7. Why am I asked my age when I register?
- This info is used for statistical purposes and for appropriate placement in Child, Youth and Family courses. It is also required to qualify for a senior's discount. The demographic information we gather assists us in planning courses to meet the needs and suggestions of our clientele. Read about our Protection of Privacy information

9. Can I get a student loan or grant to complete my courses?
- Alberta Employment Immigration & Industry may provide part-time funding for low-income individuals interested in adult courses. Contact Student Services (403) 777-7200 (option 4) for more information.
10. What do your fees include?
- As a cost-recovery, non-profit organization, our fees cover our costs only. Parking is free at most locations. GST in included in fees where applicable. Supplies and textbooks are often included - check the individual course description.
