Basic Boating & Safe Navigation
12 Classes - Fee: $275
This is a comprehensive course in safe boating for power and sail boaters on coastal and inland waters. Material covered includes: types of boats, boat handling, government regulations, nautical charts, aids to navigation, rules of the road, elementary chart plotting and calculations, the compass, bearings and fixes, safety considerations and equipment, lines and knots, anchoring, weather, canals, locks, and manners and customs. Students completing the CPS (Calgary Power and Sail) Pleasure Craft Operator Card exam with a passing grade of 75% will receive a PCOC card that is recognized in Canada and the United States. Students completing the CPS Boating Course exam, with a passing grade of 75%, will receive free full CPS membership for 1 year. Benefits of CPS membership include reductions in boat insurance and access to advanced courses.
