Overview
Chinook Learning Services is the Calgary Board of Education's provider of in-person high school upgrading and completion. Students come to Chinook to:
- Complete a high school diploma.
- Increase competitive average and / or deepen curricular understanding as a bridge to post-secondary.
- Upgrade to a higher academic stream.
- Learn in an inclusive, adult environment.
Students who are still eligible to attend their home high school are not permitted to register with Chinook Learning Services for Fall or Winter semesters. Daytime courses are available to students 19 years of age or younger as of September 1 of the current school year. Evening courses are open to all adult learners.
Locations
Chinook offers courses at three locations. Each Chinook site is its own separate space within these school buildings:
- Forest Lawn High School (NE) - map
- James Fowler High School (NW) - map
- Lord Beaverbrook High School (SE) - map

Exploring Career Choices with the CBE
The Calgary Board of Education collaborates with post-secondary institutions, industry partners and community organizations to offer a wide-range of unique opportunities for students.
Online Learning
CBe-learn is the Calgary Board of Education’s online school. It also offers various opportunities to complete individual courses and upgrading, both during the school year and through summer school. |

Chinook Learning Services is Moving
In early 2026, Chinook Learning Services High School Upgrading program will be consolidated into one location at Spruce Cliff School. High School Upgrading is currently offered in classrooms at Lord Beaverbrook, Forest Lawn, and James Fowler High Schools.
