After teaching English in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, and Dubai, David now teaches newly-arrived refugees English as an Additional Language (EAL), Math, and school integration at a CBE middle school. He and his EAL Assistants work as a team to help students, often with interrupted schooling, get up to grade level, adapt to their new environment, and practice self-regulation. He emphasizes building relationships, collaborative response, and differentiation. In Calgary, he has also worked as an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) speaking examiner, an EAL instructor in University of Calgary’s Explore program, and a Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) instructor at the Calgary Board of Education's Welcome Center. In his free time, he likes to watch his kids’ sports, cook delivered meal kits, and explore new dog parks. Program Area |
