Project Management Introduction

Course Description

Everyone has to start somewhere, right? As someone fulfilling an administrative role, you may be asked to manage smaller projects as part of, or in addition to, your regular duties. In this one-day course you’ll explore “big picture” project management and the project management lifecycle. Through this interactive learning experience based on a practical approach to project management, you’ll learn project management principles, kicking off your project, creating a schedule and budget, building the team, communicating and managing stakeholders, analyzing risks, monitoring progress and closing your project.

Participant Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the Project Management Life Cycle and a project manager's role in each phase
  • Explain basic project success criteria and common reasons for project failure
  • Discuss techniques for setting up a strong project team
  • Understand the elements of a Risk Management Plan
  • Apply techniques for controlling for deviation from budgets and schedules
  • Discover key elements of project management communications and reporting tools
  • Apply key activities of project close-out
