Course Description

By the end of the course, you'll have the ability to perform basic conversations in Spanish using everyday vocabulary, comprehend Spanish nouns and verbs, explore Spanish culture, and confidently handle numbers for discussing dates, times, and currency. This newfound proficiency can enhance your readiness to explore Spanish-speaking countries and may even open new career opportunities for you. A textbook, available for approximately $30 (including GST, shipping and handling) is required for this course. Details for purchasing it will be provided upon registration.

Participant Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Introduce yourself and use greetings and farewells
  • Talk about dates and days of the week
  • Use classroom expressions
  • Ask useful questions and give answers
  • Use polite expressions
  • Describe people and activities
  • Conjugate verbs in the present tense
  • Express future actions

Course Content

Course topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Greetings: different ways to say Hello and Goodbye
  • Introducing yourself
  • The alphabet: pronunciation of vowels and diphthongs
  • Vocabulary: home, business, and travel
  • Personal pronouns
  • Verb SER: Identification and personal information origin and nationality
  • Verb ESTAR: For localization and temporary feelings
  • Vocabulary: people, places, things
  • Various simple commands
  • Definite and indefinite articles: singular and plural
  • Agreement between nouns and adjectives in gender and number
  • Conjugating verbs in the present tense and present progressive tense
  • Numbers from 0 - 20
  • Cultural aspects integrated into all classes
