This course is designed for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. We will explore the creation of Bitcoin, the issues with fiat currency, how blockchain technology works, as well as mining, purchasing, and storing Bitcoin. In addition, we will connect with Calgary’s growing Bitcoin community and cover other cryptocurrencies, such as Ethereum, Solana, stable coins, and meme coins.
The course consists of six 2-hour lessons, which include discussions on current trends, reviews of important literature, and practical demonstrations such as exchanging BTC, using a hardware wallet, using the BTC Lightning Network, mining BTC, and even tokenizing our own meme coin. Join instructor David Penner, an educator with a growing interest in Bitcoin. With a B.Ed. in Teaching English as an Additional Language and an MA in Applied Linguistics, David strives to share complex ideas in clear, approachable ways. His experience teaching globally helps him connect with diverse learners and create supportive environments. He focuses on practical, hands-on approaches to make new concepts accessible.
