Off-Campus Program at Calaway Park wins Mayors' Award

Chinook Learning Services is honoured to be a co-recipient of a 2012 Mayors' Excellence Award, as recognized by the Calgary Education Partnership Foundation (CEPF). The Calaway Park Off-Campus Summer Program has won the award for the School-to-Work Transition Program, and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), as represented by Chinook, is one of three local school boards involved.

More than 10 years ago, CBE teachers began the development of this program, which allows students to explore a career path in the tourism industry. Calaway Park hires about 500 students each summer, most of whom are CBE students. CBE teachers, hired and supervised by Chinook Learning Services, work in partnership with Calaway Park staff before and during the summer, to provide those students the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace while earning high school credits. Teachers ensure that the students are working in a safe environment and are able to learn from their experience on the job.

Calaway Park provides an outstanding work atmosphere for student on-the-job learning, and Chinook Learning Services is proud to be involved with this excellent program.
