ALISOMA Centre (Accommodation & Testing Centre)
The ALISOMA Centre (located in Room 139 at Viscount Bennett Centre) is the new name for Chinook Learning Services Accommodation and Testing Centre. In Swahili, the word ALISOMA means reading or studying. At Chinook, ALISOMA stands for: Accommodation, Learning, Inclusive, Student, Opportunity, Mentoring and Achievement.
Accommodations
The ALISOMA Centre is open for students who require accommodations that are not available in class. These accommodations may include extra time, readers, scribes, inclusive technologies and/or a distraction-free environment to write assignments or tests. Typically students who access accommodations have specific learning needs and have been identified through Student Services. Students who feel they require accommodations should contact Student Services in Room 164 of Viscount Bennett Centre. Phone: 403-777-7200 - Option 4. Students requesting accommodations must bring IPP's (Individual Program Plans) and/or ESL/ELL testing scores to registration.

Testing
Students who are taking Self-Directed Learning courses are required to write their tests in the ALISOMA Centre. Information about test writing will be given during the Self-Directed Orientations. The ALISOMA Centre is also available for all other students who are in a Chinook High School Upgrading course who need to write a test at a different time. Students who would like to use the ALISOMA Centre for test writing should contact their teacher to arrange this service.
Please follow these test writing procedures:
- Allow yourself sufficient time to complete your test.
Note the hours listed:
- Bring photo ID; students must present photo ID to write exams.
- Bring pen, pencil, eraser and any Math materials required (ie. protractor, compass, etc.)
- Come prepared with the name of your course and the name of the test you wish to write.
- You may be asked to clear your calculator upon entering and leaving the ALISOMA Centre.
- Please be prepared to follow the procedures of the ALISOMA Centre as requested by the exam supervisors.
- Use of cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDA’s) and electronic dictionaries is not allowed. Please turn off cell phones and pagers during testing. Cell phones must be kept in your zipped backpack.
