This webpage is intended to cover some of the most common questions asked. Please keep in mind that each person's circumstances are unique, and that THESE ANSWERS ARE NOT INTENDED TO COVER EVERY POSSIBLE CIRCUMSTANCE.

 

Answers To Common Questions

1. I want to go back to school but I do not know where to start?

Knowing where to start your High School courses is highly individualistic. It is advisable that you call 403-777-7200, Option 4 to speak with a Student Advisor to discuss your course choices prior to registering. See High School Course Information for course offerings.

2. How do I get my High School Diploma?

An Alberta High School diploma is granted by Alberta Education once a minimum of 100 credits has been successfully achieved. Please refer to Alberta High School Requirements for a list of specific courses that must be completed.

3. How do I obtain a copy of my high school transcripts?

If you have completed high school courses in Alberta phone Alberta Education toll free at
310-0000 and ask to connect with 780-427-5732 to obtain an unofficial copy of your transcripts. If your high school was in another province contact the Department of Education in that province.

4. What courses do I need for Post-Secondary?

Entrance requirements vary with each institution. Prior to registering for any High School courses at Chinook Learning Services, it is advisable to contact the institution of your choice for up-to-date information regarding pre-requisite courses. See Post-Secondary Information for lists of Alberta, Canadian and International links.

5. What Math course should I take?

Knowing which Math course to take will depend on your purpose for coming back to school. If it is to obtain the prerequisite for a Post-Secondary institution, then you will need to contact that institution first to find out their math pre-requisites. If you are not sure of your Math level, then you should consider attending one of our Course Assessments.

6. How many courses am I allowed to take?

A typical full time program is 2 to 4 courses per semester. However, Chinook Learning Services reserves the right to limit the number of courses for a student who is 19 years of age or younger as of September 1st of the current school year.

7. If I am currently attending high school, can I still register for a course at Chinook Learning Services?

Yes, but only if you provide a completed Prerequisite Information Form from your high school counsellor at the time of registration.

8. If I am 19 years old and not currently attending High School, how do I register for courses?

If you are 19 years of age as of September 1st of the current school year, you are required to meet with a Student Services Advisor to discuss your program prior to registering.
